photorejuvenation

How to prepare for a photorejuvenation treatment?

People who decide to undergo photo rejuvenation should remember that proper preparation for the session is a way to minimize the risk of complications and prolong the results. It is important to avoid sunbathing and use a solarium a month before the planned date of the procedure. The skin should not be irritated or tanned, as this increases the risk of complications.

A few days before the visit, it is worth discontinuing cosmetics containing retinol, AHA and BHA acids and other substances that irritate the skin. It is also important to discontinue the use of photosensitizing drugs, such as certain antibiotics or photosensitizing herbs, at least two weeks before the planned procedure. Before starting the session, there is a consultation with our experienced beautician who will assess the condition of the skin and rule out any contraindications.

How does photorejuvenation work?

The photorejuvenation treatment begins with thorough cleansing of the skin and the application of a cooling gel, which ensures better contact of the laser head with the skin and increases the client’s comfort. The beautician then positions the head of the device about 10 cm from the body and heats it. The laser emits special, pulsed light that penetrates the epidermis. During the first stage, the skin reaches a temperature of about 50 degrees Celsius. The temperature is constantly monitored by a beautician. During this time, the complexion turns pink and erythema may also appear. This is a natural effect related to the expansion of blood vessels and increased blood flow.

During the second stage of photorejuvenation, the beautician increases the pulse density and places the head on the skin. In total, three transitions take place in contact with the skin. At this stage, the light reaches the deeper layers of the skin, where it stimulates the production of collagen and elastin. Micro-damages are also created, which stimulate repair processes. During the treatment, the patient may feel a slight burning or warmth resulting from the laser. In most cases, discomfort is minimal and well tolerated. The entire procedure usually takes 20 to 30 minutes, which makes it an ideal treatment even for people with a tight schedule.

What happens to the skin during photorejuvenation treatment?

During the session, the laser light penetrates the epidermis, reaching the deeper layers of the skin. There, controlled micro-damages occur, which stimulate the skin’s natural regeneration processes, leading to increased production of collagen and elastin. Collagen is a protein that gives the skin firmness and elasticity, while elastin is responsible for its elasticity. As a result of the increased production of these proteins, the skin becomes firmer, more elastic and smooth.

How to care for the skin after the treatment?

After the photorejuvenation treatment, the skin may be slightly red and irritated, so you should take proper care of it. Immediately after the session, avoid exposure to the sun and use creams with a high SPF filter to protect the skin against the harmful effects of rays. You should also avoid intense physical exercise, hot baths and sauna for a few days.

When it comes to care, it should be rather gentle. It is worth using mild moisturizing and regenerating cosmetics that will help the epidermis heal faster. Cosmetics containing alcohol, acids and retinoids should be avoided because they may further irritate the skin. Photo rejuvenation itself is a safe and non-invasive procedure, so the risk of possible complications is minimal. We encourage you to schedule a free consultation at one of the Time For Wax salons.
